Lets face it, how many times in a day do you ask yourself “where did that thought come from”? I find myself questioning myself many times during each and every day.
Your thoughts are based on the experiences you have had in your life. The hard part is that you can not change what has happened to you, but you can change the way you allow it to effect your current thoughts. I find it helpful to ask myself, how is this thought helping me? If it isn’t helping me move forward, I make the choice to let it go and reframe it into a thought that is more productive.
Let me give you an example.
I am on a weight loss journey, and often times I find myself beating myself up for a slight gain (0.2lbs). Now, this does not HELP me move forward toward my goal, it stops me in my tracks, keeps me where I am and sometimes even causes me to go backwards. (Heck, I blew it, so might as well eat that stack of Oreo cookies. LOL)
When I recognize that I am having these types of thoughts, I remind myself that I am still “DOWN” from where I was and I didn’t gain my weight overnight, so I won’t lose it all overnight either. I have to be patient and know that I am changing my life moment by moment and progress is progress, regardless of how slow.
SO, the next time you have a thought that doesn’t SERVE your HIGHER GOOD, stop and take a moment to acknowledge it and find a different way to see the situation. You will undoubtedly feel MUCH BETTER!
Till next time.
