Are you selfish??

What emotions does that questions gander for you??

Most of us have been taught from a young age that we ought not to be selfish.  We should put other’s needs/wants over our own.  While in theory this may be true, in practicality it does not serve our well being.

Think back to the last time you were on an airplane. (tick tock, tick tock) OK, now think about the mandated safety presentation from the steward/ess.  Yes, I know this could be hard, most of us don’t listen to this part very well. LOL.  When they talk about a “sudden drop in cabin pressure” what do they tell you to do??  They tell you to reach up and put YOUR OWN MASK ON FIRST, then help those around you that may need assistance.

WHY is that??  HELLO, if you don’t put your mask on FIRST, but choose to help someone else, you may not have enough time or oxygen to put yours on second.  How does that help ANYONE??  It doesn’t.

We have to make sure that we have the strength and power to maintain ourselves (Physically and Mentally) if we want to be of any use to our families, our communities or the world.  Now, that does not mean to serve yourself OVER the needs of others, it simply put means to make sure you are in a condition to be of use to them.  How useful will you be if you don’t eat right, or exercise regularly?    What good will you be to anyone if you give constantly, but don’t have anyone in your life that is giving back?  Soon, you will find yourself empty and unable to function the way you wish.

Today’s Tip:  Where in your life could you use to be more/less selfish??  Take one small step in that direction each day, and watch the amazing changes that take place.

    Great post, Dyrene! That’s one of the areas I’m working on this year. My husband & I both work from home, AND we home-school 3 of our boys (the other one just joined the SC Army National Guard). So, as you can imagine–between the school work, job/business related work, shuffling between sports, dinners, laundry, etc., there is very little time for ‘me.’ 🙂 I make it a point to start my day with exercise, and I take a 5-10 minute break every couple of hours.
