How is your past influencing you today?

Mindset Monday:

Good Monday morning.  Today I want to talk about the past.  It is something we all have.  Do you sometimes wonder how people can “get over” the things that have happened to them in the past?  Abusive childhoods, Family deaths, Unexpected Job loss and such.

I believe that we have the power to learn from these events, and use that knowledge to either grow and move forward or to let them keep us stuck where we are.  This is the main difference in people of success.  They choose to learn from them and move on.  Our past is not real anymore, it is only a memory.  How does it help us to keep playing the “movie” in our minds all the time?  I think that doing this allows our “stories” we create about the event to impact our lives.  Replaying the movies in our minds wastes the time we’ve been given for today on thoughts of yesterday.

We cannot change the past, but we definitely shouldn’t allow it to take away our today or tomorrow.  Dr Wayne Dyer has compared the past to the wake of a boat.  Think about it for a moment and let the visual make an impact on your mind.  If you watch behind the boat, the wake shows you where you have been and come from.  It has no bearing on where the boat is going.  After a short time, it doesn’t exist anymore except in the memory.  The past is no longer real and it’s as if it never happened.

I know this is a hard concept to grasp, but I believe that if we can even start to allow this thought to be prevalent in our minds, we can start changing our lives.

Till next time.

Happiness & Joy,
